Jennifer Garner was born on the 17th of April, 1972 in Houston, Texas but was raised within Charleston, West Virginia. William John Garner was her father and a chemical engineering at Union Carbide. Her mother Patricia Ann taught at a local college. In order to continue in the tradition of her father, she earned a degree as a chemical engineer. In order to follow her dream of becoming an actor, she relocated to New York to try her luck in the movies. When she was not appearing in Broadway shows, she was employed as a waitress. Garner was a small part on "Felicity" (where she also met Scott Foley). She got her big break in the action thriller "Alias." Garner's first leading role was the acclaimed romance "13 going on thirty." The film starred her as a teenager who found herself trapped in the body of an older woman of 30. Garner picked Gary Winick, who directed the movie. Both Winick and Garner continued to work together in search of other projects following his death. Garner, who was designated as an ambassador for artists with Save the Children U.S.A. during 2009, had an important role within the nonprofit organization. It includes the promotion of the importance of nutrition, literacy and early childhood education. Since 2014, Garner has been a part of the trustees' board of this organization, pushing for early elementary education. Being a part of the Early Steps to School Success (EASS) team of ambassadors for the program, Garner visits families regularly to provide them with strategies to encourage their young children to achieve.
